Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: prospective group: Women at least 18 years old, pregnant of first child, with gestational age of 37 weeks, in who a vaginal birth is planned. controlgroup: women at least 18 years old, delivered thirst baby after March 1 2011 with gestationale age of 37 weeks. The controlgroup is matched to the prospective group regarding delivery with the midwife or gynaecologist and regarding vaginal or secondary caesareans.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age below 18 years Pre-existent symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction before pregnancy Multiple pregnancy History of connective tissue diseases like Marfan, Ehlers Danlos and hypermobolity of joints.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. The difference in the amount of reported pelvic floor symptoms at the end of the pregnancy, 6 weeks and 12 weeks postpartum, when we compare the daily care (historical control group) with the situation in which a validated questionnaire about pelvic floor symptoms will be filled in.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
2. The difference in the amount of reported pelvic floor symptoms in the medical records at the time of the regular visit 6 weeks postpartum of the women in the historical control group compared to what these women report on pelvic floor symptoms retrospectively when asked systematically by telephone a few months later. 2. The additional value of pelvic floor ultrasound and physical examination in recognizing women with a higher risk for pelvic floor dysfunction, besides the questionnaire on pelvic floor symptoms. 3. The amount of women in which pelvic floor symptoms resolve between 6 and 12 weeks post partum without an additional treatment provided.
