Inclusion criteria: Cochlear implant users: o Experience with the implant >=6 months Normally hearing subjects: o Hearing loss

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: o Inability to cooperate o Cochlear implant users: o Inactive electrodes surrounded by active electrodes o Medical complications associated with the implant. o Prelingual deafness.

Primary

Measure	Time frame
The just noticeable difference in frequency (JNDF) is the primary outcome measure for an individual patient. The primary outcome of the study is the differences in JNDF between speech coding strategies.	—

Measure	Time frame
The secondary outcome is the influence of the number of harmonics on the JNDF in normally hearing subjects and in cochlear implant users.	—
