Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients admitted to the intensive care with organ dysfunction or circulatory failure due to severe sepsis or septic shock. Age > 18 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Severe vascular pathology. Circumstances making it impossible to perform sublingual measurements, like bleeding of the oral cavity
