Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Boys and men with DNA proven Duchenne muscular dystrophy. age: 8 years or older who previously participated in the study. Healthy controls: boys 8 years or older and adults who previously participated in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: contra-indication for MRI patients known with central nervous system disorder (epilepsy, tumor)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
-Primary objectives Quantitative assessment of pathological changes in brain associated with dystrophin absence and cognitive impairment by: Comparison of DMD patients and healthy age matched controls by assessment of the following quantitative MR parameters: - cortical thickness - differences in grey and white matter volumes - cerebral perfusion, especially in the cerebellum - anatomical connectivity - functional connectivity - metabolism as assessed by MR spectroscopy of the cerebellum, hippocampus, amygdala and frontal cortex. The difference between the two timepoints per parameter per patient will be determined and consequently compared between patients and controls.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary objectives To study the relationship between the above mentioned MR parameters and: - the results from neuropsychological testing and behavioral functioning
