Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: male, substance dependent, inpatient in a clinical faclility for the treatment of addiction
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: severe concomitant interfering psychiatric disorders (acute mood disorders, acute psychotic disorders and neuropsychiatric disorders)

| drop out from treatment. It is defined as the number of weeks an individual stays at the Rehabilitation section of the inpatient treatment facility. A cut-off score is determined at 30 days and subjects will be assigned to one of two groups. One group will comprise early drop-outs; the other will consist of subjects who persist longer. | — |

| In addition to the cut-off procedure as described above, retention will be measured as the time to drop-out. By doing so, insight may be acquired in specific patterns of drop out. Third, three months after initial assessment, the alcohol and drug use section of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI)-interview will be administered once again, to investigate the relative change in use of addictive substances. Fourth, during hospitalisation, file inspection will be done to into the results of urine analysis and to keep track of self report of relapse in substance use. These two measures are indicators of treatment succes. | — |
