Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The criteria of inclusion are 30 non-smoking male participants of the Rotterdam Fortis Marathon (5th of April 2009) divided in two groups: experienced runners, who have successfully run several marathons, and less experienced runners.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The criteria of exclusion from the study will be an age of less than 18 years. The subject will be excluded from the study at any time if there is notion of acute cardio-pulmonary insufficiency that requires immediate hospitalization, the presence of an acute cerebral vascular incident, acute coronary syndrome or seizure. Also all participants with a medical history of decompensatio cordis or taking medication that could influence measured variables (e.g. antihypertensive medication like ACE-inhibitors or diuretics) will be excluded from this study.

1. To prove that microcirculatory alterations occur in healthy group of human volunteers submitted to prolonged endurance exercise. 2. To relate microcirculatory alterations to molecular biology of inflammation. 3. Correlation between plasma sodium concentration, plasma volume (AVP) and copeptin, a precursor of arginine vasopressin (AVP).
