In the TMS sessions in the pilot experiment we will stimulate the left vPMC with either of two paradigms: participants either receive 10 minutes of 1 Hz rTMS to left vPMC, or 40 seconds of triplets

MeasureTime frame
The effect of TMS on the three stimulation sites in the main experiment will be assessed using a behavioural task, i.e., a response time (RT) task in which the difference in RT and the proportion of correct responses are the dependent variables. In one condition, listeners hear sentences in a familiar accent, and in a second condition they hear sentences in an unfamiliar regional accent. The main study parameter is the difference in RT across conditions before and after TMS. The proportion of errors is the secondary parameter. It is predicted that RTs are slower for the unfamiliar regional accent and an interaction is expected between condition and pre-and post stimulation to left vPMC, resulting in a further slowing down of RTs for the unfamiliar accent after stimulation.

MeasureTime frame
The secondary parameter are the motor evoked potentials (MEPs), which are measured every 3 minutes immediately after the two types of stimulation in the pilot experiment for 30 minutes. This results in 10 measurements for each cortical site per participant.
