| - Anticipatory anxiety. The anticipatory anxiety will be assessed with a short version (six questions) of the state anxiety scale of the Dutch version of the STAI for children.10 - Actual distress: self report. Shortly prior to, during and after scanning, the children will be asked to indicate their level of distress on a Facial Image Scale (FIS). The FIS comprises a row of five faces ranging from very happy to very unhappy/distressed. We will offer an explanation in which we use a Dutch childlike connotation (*van streek zijn*). The children will be asked to point at which face they feel most like at that moment. | — |

| - Actual distress: physiological arousal. To obtain an indicator of autonomic nervous system arousal, the child*s heart and respiratory rate will be measured using a pulse oxymeter. - Actual distress: behavioural observations. The technician or other health care provider performing the procedure will be asked to use a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to rate the child*s degree of observed distress and degree of cooperation during the just completed procedure. The end-points of the 10 centimetre scale for distress are Not Distressed and Very Distressed. The endpoints for cooperation are Not Cooperative and Very Cooperative. - Child*s evaluation. Shortly after the scanning procedure, the children will be asked to fill out a short evaluation questionnaire asking them whether they would be willing to undergo a further scan, if they could indicate the pleasant and/or unpleasant features of MRI scanning and if they could compare the experience with a venipuncture. | — |
