Interventions

Participants will be tested after a 2.5 hour cognitive demanding session (experimental condition) and after a 2.5 hour cognitive non demanding session (control condition).

Age
18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy young adults between 20 - 25 years, and healthy middle aged adults between 50 - 55 years old.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Significant past or present physical or psychiatric illnesses, the use of medication at the moment of inclusion, and MRI contraindications

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The main outcome measures are performance (mean reaction time and accuracy) and the blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) response, a reliable measure for brain activation, during a working memory and verbal memory task.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Mood and fatigue measured by the 'Profile of Mood States' (POMS) questionnaire. Cortisol levels before and after scanning, measured with a saliva sample
