Interventions

Patients receive single-channel electrostimulation, or multi-channel electrostimulaton during a period of 4 weeks.

18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: subacute patients: - Patients with hemiparesis after a stroke, treated in rehabilitation center Het Roessingh; - Time since injury at recruitment at least 2 weeks; - Age 18 to 80 years; - measurable muscle activity in at least 1 of the muscles to be stimulated; - Stable general health status;chronic stroke patients - Age 18 to 80 years; - Measurable muscle activity in at least 1 of the muscles to be stimulated; - Stable general health status.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Polyneuropathy or other neurological disorders not related to the stroke - Neoplasm or other progressive diseases (e.g. HIV) - Cardiac pacemaker or other active implants - Cardiac insufficiency (not able to attempt to the program) - Participation in other clinical studies (during the therapy) - Intensive electrostimulation treatment before this trial - Nervus medianus lesion or irritation - Implanted medication-pump - Skin deficiencies on the place of the electrodes - Patient cannot deal with surface stimulation

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The main study parameters are the action research arm test (ARA), the fugl-meyer motor assessment (FM), the motricity index (MI) and the active range of motion (AROM) of the wrist. Also the RMS of the EMG of the musculus flexor carpi radialis (FCR) and musculus extensor carpi radialis (ECR) during isometric contraction is calculated.
