Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 99 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age 18 years or older 2. Clinically suspected small fibre neuropathy 3. Normal results of standard nerve-conduction studies or only minor abnormalities not compatible with polyneuropathy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Age under 18 years 2. Symptoms and signs indicating large nerve fibre involvement 3. Nerve conduction studies compatible with polyneuropathy 4. Pre-existent vascular insufficiency, confirmed by echo doppler or a history of ulcus cruris

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
If patients are eligible they will undergo the following baseline investigations: various questionnaires, a general physical and neurological examination, extensive laboratory tests, chest radiograph, the short form QST protocol and a skin biopsy. These investigations are repeated at one and/or two years of follow-up. The results will be compared with eachother.
