Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1) The individual is 18 years or older. 2) The individual has a mild, moderate or severe intellectual disability. 3) The individual regularly exhibits challenging behaviors (defined as a behavior listed on the Aberrant Behavior Checklist on a weekly to daily basis). 4) The individual lives in a residential setting where staff members are physically present and receives 24 hours of care each day. 5) The individual does not use psychotropic medication, or is on a stable dose for at least 6 weeks before inclusion. 6) The legal representative of the individual has given consent for participation in the study. 7) The individual is able to walk independently or to move around in a wheelchair independently.

| Secondary outcomes will be hyperactive behavior, stereotypic behavior, inappropriate speech, lethargy, applied restraining measures, quality of life and staff sickness leave, emotions and cognitions. Furthermore, we will examine the influence of background variables such as age, gender, level of intellectual disability, and site on treatment effects. | — |
