Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: In order to be eligible to participate in this study, a subject must meet all of the following criteria: patients between 13 and 20 years of age (first-time ill with an illness duration of 1 year or less) for the first group, and between 18 and 35 years of age (>5 y ill, start in adolescence) with AN and atypical AN according to DSM-5. Controls are age-matched

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: A potential subject who meets any of the following criteria will be excluded from participation in this study: organic brain disease, psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, insufficient knowledge of Dutch language, an IQ lower than 80 and antibiotic use during the previous 6 weeks. Control participants are not allowed to have (a history of) an eating disorder.
