Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Depleted and non-depleted patients with COPD; 2. FEV1<50%pred; 3. FEV1/VC<70%.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Comorbidity that impacts exercise tolerance; 2. Inability to perform an incremental exercise test or to participate in exercise training; 3. Investigators uncertainty about the willingness or ability of the patient to comply with the protocol requirements.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the effect of specific exercise training and strategies in subgroups of patients with COPD on endurance capacity measured by a constant work rate test.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the effect of specific exercise training and strategies in subgroups of patients with COPD on muscle strength, 6 minute walking distance, quality of life, activities of daily life and dyspnea.
