Conditions

The prevalence of MRSA and ESBL in livestock and healthy farmers in the region of the german baltic sea will be researched. We want to know what types of MRSA and ESBL occur in livestock and if they are related to types found in hospitals in the same region.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Poultry farms with 500 animals are included, cattle and swine farms must have over 50 animals. The farms must be in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania in Germany.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Hobbyfarmers are excluded.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The prevalence of MRO in the region in livestock and farmers. There will be environmental , fecal and swab samples. Start in March 2012, end of the HICARE-Project is in 2014.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Matching the types with types found in the hospitals of the region. Start is summer 2012, first results winter 2012.
