Interventions

Ultrasonography of wrist and subsequently a wrist CT.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Clinical suspicion of a scaphoid fracture; 2. Normal hand/wrist radiographs; 3. Age > 18 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Other fractures in the affected extremity; 2. Multi trauma patients; 3. Open fractures of the hand; 4. Pregnancy; 5. Insufficient understanding of written and spoken Dutch language.

Primary

Measure	Time frame
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the use of ultrasonography in detection of occult scaphoid fractures. Sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values for ultrasonography in comparison with a CT-scan.	—

Secondary

Subanalysis of different fractures types: 1. Proximal pole fractures; 2. Waist fractures; 3. Distal pole fractures.	—
