Interventions

Observational study so no interventions. Serum and blood will be collected every 3 hours for 12 hours post injury, afterwards daily to investigate the development of gut wall integrity loss in time.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. > 18 years; 2. Traumatic injury; 3. Admission to shock room of a level 1 trauma center.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: <18 years.

Measure	Time frame
The presence of intra-abdominal injury necessitating therapeutic intervention, SIRS-score, MOF score, Injury Severity Score, morbidity and mortality. Levels of cytokines involved in the inflammatory and metabolic response such as TNFa, IL6 and IL10, and WBC and CRP, and lactate/base excess. All these parameters will be related to the level of FABP and Claudin in serum and urine to test the diagnostic and prognostic significance of FABp/Claudin.	—
