Brief summary
This study aims to investigate acute changes in serum ferritin, folate, vitamin B12, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels following aerobic exercise in professional soccer players. Twenty professional male soccer players will voluntarily participate in the study. Participants will complete a progressive 20-meter shuttle run test. Venous blood samples will be collected immediately before and after the exercise protocol. Pre- to post-exercise changes in each blood parameter will be analyzed to determine the acute physiological responses to aerobic exercise in professional soccer players.
Detailed description
This single-group interventional study is designed to examine acute changes in selected blood biomarkers following aerobic exercise in professional soccer players. A total of 20 professional male soccer players aged 18-25 years will voluntarily participate. Participants will be recruited from a professional soccer club in Karabuk, Türkiye. Before participation, all individuals will receive information about the study procedures, provide written informed consent, and undergo medical screening to determine their eligibility for maximal aerobic exercise. Body height and body mass will be measured before exercise testing. Aerobic exercise will be performed using a progressive 20-meter shuttle run test. Participants will run continuously between two lines positioned 20 meters apart while following prerecorded audio signals. Running speed will progressively increase as the interval between the audio signals decreases. The test will end when a participant fails to reach the designated line before the audio signal on two consecutive occasions. Venous blood samples of approximately 5 mL will be collected immediately before and immediately after the exercise protocol by qualified healthcare personnel. Blood samples will be collected into anticoagulant-free serum tubes. Following a clotting period of approximately 30 minutes, the samples will be centrifuged at 3,000 revolutions per minute to separate the serum. Serum samples will be stored at -70°C until laboratory analysis. Serum ferritin, folate, vitamin B12, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentrations will be measured. Pre- to post-exercise changes in each biomarker will be analyzed separately to determine the acute physiological responses elicited by aerobic exercise in professional soccer players.
Interventions
Participants will perform a progressive 20-meter shuttle run test by running continuously between two lines positioned 20 meters apart in time with prerecorded audio signals. Running speed will progressively increase as the interval between the audio signals decreases. The test will end when the participant fails to reach the designated line before the signal on two consecutive occasions.

No masking was applied in this single-group exercise intervention study.
Intervention model description
All participants will be assigned to a single intervention group and will complete the same aerobic exercise protocol. Blood parameters will be assessed in relation to the exercise intervention using a within-participant design.

Inclusion criteria
- Professional soccer players. * Willing and able to participate in the study procedures. * Provision of informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
- Inability to complete the aerobic exercise protocol. \- Withdrawal from the study or unwillingness to continue participation.
