Bank employees spend most of their working day sitting at a desk, which is linked to poor well-being, forward head posture, and reduced work performance. This study compares the effectiveness of a 12-minute structured exercise protocol versus an unstructured activity break in improving well-being, posture, and work performance in sedentary bank employees.

Detailed description

In working adults, prolonged desk-based sitting is a majoroccupational health concern. Long hours of static posture is one of the main risk factors.Sustained sitting causes strain on the neck, shoulders, and hips, and as a result indirectly affects psychological well-being, postural alignment, and work efficiency. The study findings will compare the effectiveness of a 12-minute structured exercise protocol against an unstructured activity break of equal duration in improving well-being, postural alignment, and work performance among sedentary bank employees.

Interventions

OTHERStructured Exercise Protocol

A 12-minute sequence including diaphragmatic breathing, cervical (SCM and upper trapezius) release, scapular retraction/protraction, wrist and triceps stretches, seated thoracic mobility (Cat- Cow), wall-supported hip flexor stretch, ankle pumps and knee extensions, and standing postural realignment with chin tuck and shoulder retraction.Researchers guide the first session,participants demonstrate understanding before proceeding independently.

OTHERUnstructured Activity Break

Comprises 7 minutes of leisurelynwalking followed by 5 minutes of self- selected activity chosen from a suggested list (drinking water, having a snack, gentle stretching, brief conversation with a colleague, or resting). Isolates the effect of structured exercise from mere time away from the desk.

Inclusion criteria

Full-time bank employees aged 22-60 years * Desk-based work of 6-8 hours or more daily * Physically inactive (fewer than 2 days/week of structured exercise in the preceding 3 months)

Exclusion criteria

Recent spinal or major joint surgery (within 12 months) * Acute musculoskeletal trauma, disc herniation, or radiculopathy * Pregnancy * Current enrollment in a structured exercise or physiotherapy programme
