Detailed description

The hip joint is a deep ball-and-socket synovial joint formed by the articulation between the femoral head and the acetabulum, supported by the labrum, ligaments, and surrounding musculature. This structural complexity makes clinical evaluation alone insufficient for identifying the underlying pathology. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has emerged as a key imaging modality for comprehensive assessment of both normal anatomy and pathological conditions affecting the hip joint

Inclusion criteria

* Patients of any age and sex. * Patients complaining of hip pain. * Patients fit for MRI examination.

Exclusion criteria

* Patients with contraindications to MRI (e.g. pacemakers, cochlear implants). * Claustrophobic patients who cannot tolerate MRI examination. * Patients with renal impairment contraindicating contrast administration (if contrast is needed).

Diagnostic yield of MRI in identifying the underlying cause of hip pain.At the time of MRI examinationProportion of patients in whom MRI identifies a specific structural or pathological abnormality that may explain the presenting hip pain, including labral tears, cartilage abnormalities, femoroacetabular impingement, avascular necrosis, stress/insufficiency fractures, bone marrow edema, osteoarthritis, joint effusion/synovitis, tendinopathy, bursitis, and other periarticular soft-tissue abnormalities.
