Brief summary

This randomized controlled trial evaluated the effect of an educational intervention on sleep quality, sleep hygiene practices, and physical activity among medical students at Cairo University. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups that received sleep-related education through different delivery methods. Sleep quality and related behaviors were assessed before and after the intervention using validated questionnaires. The study aimed to determine whether the educational intervention could improve sleep quality and promote healthier sleep practices among medical students.

Inclusion criteria

* Registered undergraduate medical students at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. * Access to a smartphone and the internet. * Poor sleep quality, defined as a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) global score greater than 5. * Provided written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

* History of chronic psychiatric or neurological disorders. * Current use of sleep medications. * Severe chronic illnesses affecting physical activity. * Positive screening for moderate to severe depression or anxiety, defined as a score ≥10 on either the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) or the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7).

Change in Sleep Quality Assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)Baseline and approximately 8 weeks after baseline, following completion of the interventionSleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The PSQI evaluates sleep quality over the previous month and provides a global score ranging from 0 to 21, with higher scores indicating poorer sleep quality. The change in PSQI score from baseline to post-intervention was compared between the study groups.
