Brief summary
This randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effects of artificial intelligence-assisted discharge education on mothers of children hospitalized with bronchitis/bronchiolitis. A total of 162 mothers will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: AI-assisted written discharge education, AI-assisted video discharge education, or routine discharge education. The primary outcome will be mothers' knowledge of home care after discharge. Secondary outcomes will include anxiety, readiness for hospital discharge, and satisfaction with discharge education. The study hypothesizes that AI-assisted written and video discharge education will improve mothers' knowledge and readiness for discharge, reduce anxiety, and increase satisfaction compared with routine discharge education.
Detailed description
This is a three-arm, parallel-group, pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial. Mothers who meet the eligibility criteria will be randomized in a 1:1:1 ratio after baseline assessments. The written education group will receive AI-assisted written discharge education, the video education group will receive AI-assisted video discharge education covering the same learning objectives, and the control group will receive routine discharge education. Knowledge, anxiety, and readiness for hospital discharge will be assessed at baseline and before discharge. Satisfaction with discharge education will be assessed after the intervention. In the two experimental groups, routine discharge education will be provided after completion of the posttest and before hospital discharge.
Interventions
A written discharge education booklet developed with support from ChatGPT based on standard discharge content and expert review.
A video discharge education intervention developed with support from Gemini Notebook and designed to cover the same learning objectives as the written material.
Standard discharge education routinely provided by the institution.

Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
* Mother of a child hospitalized with a diagnosis of bronchitis/bronchiolitis * Child hospitalized for at least 3 days * Willing to participate and provide informed consent * Able to read and understand Turkish and communicate sufficiently to complete the study forms * Owns a smartphone

Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Change in Maternal Knowledge Score Regarding Home Care After Discharge | Baseline before randomization and at hospital discharge, during the same hospitalization. | Maternal knowledge will be assessed using a 10-item true/false knowledge test developed according to the content of the discharge education. Each correct answer is scored as 1 and each incorrect answer as 0, yielding a total score ranging from 0 to 10. Higher scores indicate greater knowledge. |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Change in Readiness for Hospital Discharge | Baseline before randomization and at hospital discharge, during the same hospitalization | Readiness for hospital discharge will be assessed using the 26-item Pediatric Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (Ped-RHDS). Higher scores indicate greater readiness for hospital discharge. |
| Change in Maternal Anxiety Level | Baseline before randomization and at hospital discharge, during the same hospitalization. | Maternal anxiety will be assessed using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) ranging from 0 to 10, where 0 indicates no anxiety and 10 indicates the highest level of anxiety. Higher scores indicate greater anxiety. |
| Maternal Satisfaction With Discharge Education | At hospital discharge, during the same hospitalization. | Satisfaction with discharge education will be assessed using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) ranging from 0 to 10, with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction with the discharge education. |
