Brief summary

The aim of this observational study is to evaluate resting metabolic rate (RMR), body composition, dietary habits, nutrition-related beliefs, and the risk of eating disorders among children and adolescents practicing sport climbing. Participants will undergo indirect calorimetry to assess RMR, anthropometric and body composition measurements, complete validated questionnaires, and provide a three-day food diary.

Detailed description

Sport climbing is characterized by high physical demands and a relatively low body mass, which may influence nutritional practices and increase the risk of disordered eating behaviors among young athletes. However, limited data are available regarding resting metabolic rate, dietary habits, nutrition-related beliefs, and eating disorder risk in this population. The objective of this study is to assess resting metabolic rate, body composition, dietary habits, nutrition-related beliefs, and eating disorder risk among children and adolescents engaged in regular sport climbing training. Participants will attend one study visit during which resting metabolic rate will be measured using indirect calorimetry. Body height and body composition will be assessed using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Participants will complete the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), the ORTO-R questionnaire, the KomPAN questionnaire (Parts A, B, and C), and a questionnaire regarding climbing level and weekly physical activity. Participants will also complete a three-day dietary record before or after the study visit. Associations between resting metabolic rate, body composition, dietary habits, nutrition-related beliefs, training characteristics, and eating disorder risk will be analyzed.

Inclusion criteria

* age 9-18 years * regular participation in organized sport climbing training for at least 6 months * participation in a climbing competition at least at the local level * written informed consent from a parent or legal guardian

Exclusion criteria

* acute illness on the day of assessment * medical conditions affecting resting metabolic rate * contraindications to bioelectrical impedance analysis * failure to complete study procedures * refusal or withdrawal of consent
