Inclusion criteria

* symptomatic, documented, drug-resistent paroxysmal atrial fibrillation * effective oral anticoagulation

Exclusion criteria

* any prior left atrial ablation procedure * presence of left atrial thrombus * secondary atrial fibrillation due to electrolyte imbalance or thyroid disease * any prior oesophageal or gastric surgery
