Inclusion criteria
* cirrhotic patients with oesophageal varices * cirrhotic patients without oesophageal varices
Exclusion criteria
* Patients with hepato-cellular carcinomas \[HCCs\], portal vein thrombosis, hepatic encephalopathy. * Patients with positive HCV antibody, but without liver cirrhosis diagnostic criteria
