Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants included adult males and females aged 18 or older who visited Dr. J Clinic in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, and were diagnosed with plantar fasciitis or complained of chronic heel pain. Inclusion criteria were based on the clinical diagnostic guidelines specified by Martin et al. (2014), which required a formal clinical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis by a physician, presence of heel pain during the first few steps in the morning or localized pain at the medial calcaneal tubercle upon weight-bearing after prolonged rest, and distinct localized tenderness elicited upon palpation of the medial calcaneal tubercle. All participants provided voluntary written consent after a full explanation of the study’s objectives and procedures.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for those who have lower extremity fractures or surgery or are musculoskeletal deformities such as spinal fusion and others. Other exclusion criteria included systemic inflammatory disorders that can lead to sensory loss (e.g., diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis), neurological disorders that can have an impact on balance (e.g., stroke or vestibular disorders), and medications that affect balance. Participants with a history of lower extremity trauma or orthopedic disorders during the past six months (e.g., tarsal tunnel syndrome or Achilles tendinopathy), or have a leg length difference of 1 cm or more and may not be able to perform balance tasks or refuse to take part.
