Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age between 19 and 70 years 2. Failure of at least 3 months of nonoperative treatment—including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), physical therapy, and lifestyle modification—at our institution or another hospital

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History of prior surgery on the affected ankle 2. History of fracture in the affected ankle 3. Presence of a bipolar lesion in the affected ankle 4. Concomitant chronic ankle instability 5. Malalignment of the affected ankle with a tibiotalar angle greater than 10° 6. Presence of degenerative arthritis in the affected ankle 7. Diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis 8. Pregnancy
