Interventions

Behavioral : The intervention consists of two phases. Phase 1 (in-hospital): Bedside exercise is performed twice daily from postoperative day (POD) 1 until discharge. POD 1 includes low-intensity exer
isotonic exercises are performed for 10 repetitions, individually adjusted.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Individuals aged 19 years or older but younger than 70, diagnosed with stage 1-3 colorectal or rectal cancer and scheduled for future surgery. 2) Individuals deemed medically fit to participate in moderate-intensity exercise. 3) Individuals willing to participate in a low to moderate-intensity exercise program for at least 70% of the total exercise sessions, with a minimum of five days a week during the hospitalization period following surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Individuals who have difficulty reading, understanding Korean, or communicating with the researchers. 2) Individuals previously diagnosed with cancers other than colorectal cancer. 3) Individuals scheduled to undergo surgeries other than colorectal cancer surgery simultaneously. 4) Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. 5) Patients wearing a stoma bag post-surgery. 6) Individuals deemed by medical professionals as unfit for exercise.
