Interventions

Behavioral : Participants in both the eccentric resistance training group (ECC) and the concentric resistance training group (CON) perform supervised trunk extensor exercise on an isokinetic dynamomet
participants are instructed to resist this movement maximally throughout the range. In the CON group, the dynamometer is set to a concentric mode so that the trunk extensors contract while shortening

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy adult men

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Men younger than 19 years or older than 50 years 2. Those with current or previous low back pain (including any occurrence within the past 6 months) 3. Those with a pathological history of the lumbar spine (e.g., fracture, surgery, disc herniation) 4. Those with knee or hip problems that preclude stable pelvic fixation 5. Those with a history of cardiovascular disease 6. Those who are unable to perform resistance exercise because of orthopedic or cardiovascular disorders

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) torque of the trunk extensors;Trunk extensor endurance assessed by Sørensen test holding time;Fasting serum lipid profile (triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C) and glycemic markers (glucose, insulin, HbA1c, HOMA-IR)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Trunk extensor muscle soreness assessed using a 0–10 visual analogue scale (VAS);Plasma creatine kinase (CK) activity
