Interventions
Procedure/Surgery : Intervention group: Concomitant insertion of a tympanostomy (ventilation) tube at the time of cholesteatoma removal.
Control group: Cholesteatoma removal alone
during follow-up, a tympanostomy tube will be inserted if re-adhesion is detected.
The study groups are divided according to whether a prophylactic tympanostomy tube is inserted.
Both groups undergo
however, in the experimental group a tympanostomy tube is inserted in the anterior portion of the tympanic membrane at the end of the operation.

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Adult patients aged =19 years Patients scheduled to undergo surgery for epitympanic (attic) cholesteatoma
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: History of prior middle ear surgery Preoperative anacusis (total deafness)
