Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged =18 years who required short-term urethral catheterization for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes (e.g., perioperative management or acute urinary retention) were eligible for inclusion.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria included known urethral stricture, current urinary tract infection, history of urethral surgery, indwelling catheterization for >14 days, and chlorhexidine allergy.
