Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants were required to meet all of the following inclusion criteria: (1) individuals who fully understood the purpose of the study and voluntarily agreed to participate; (2) newly graduated nurses working in hospital wards with 3 months to less than 1 year of clinical experience; (3) individuals without any physical illness under treatment and not taking specific medications; (4) individuals with normal olfactory function, with no history of sensorineural or conductive olfactory disorders; (5) individuals who had never been exposed to the scent of clary sage essential oil before the study; and (6) individuals with no allergic reaction to clary sage essential oil.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants were excluded if they met any of the following conditions: (1) currently taking specific medications such as anticoagulants or antidiabetic agents; (2) women who were breastfeeding; (3) women who were pregnant; (4) individuals with impaired olfactory function, including those diagnosed with sensorineural or conductive olfactory disorders; (5) individuals who had previously been exposed to the scent of clary sage essential oil before the study; or (6) individuals who had experienced allergic reactions to clary sage essential oil.
