Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: In the initial screening for sarcopenic obesity, sarcopenia had been assessed according to the diagnostic criteria outlined in the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia: 2019 Consensus Update on Sarcopenia Diagnosis and Treatment. The criteria had included: calf circumference < 33 cm, handgrip strength < 18 kg, gait speed < 1.0 m/s during a 6-meter walk, time = 12 seconds to complete five repeated chair stands, and a total score = 9 on the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Obesity had been determined based on a waist circumference = 80 cm in women, according to the World Health Organization Asia-Pacific guidelines. Final diagnosis of sarcopenic obesity had been confirmed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Participants had been excluded if they had been medically advised against physical activity; had already been engaging in regular exercise more than three times per week for at least one month; had not met the diagnostic criteria for sarcopenic obesity (based on grip strength, SPPB score, and waist circumference); had been taking three or more medications for multiple chronic conditions; or had had systolic blood pressure =180 mmHg, diastolic pressure =110 mmHg, or had been classified as stage III hypertensive.
