Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria for this study were young adults in their 20s and 30s residing in South Korea who were able to use a smartphone and access the internet, and who scored 16 or higher on the 20-item CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale) during the preliminary screening. Participants were required to understand the study procedures and voluntarily provide consent. Individuals with severe psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, current suicide risk, severe alcohol or substance abuse problems, significant physical illnesses that limit activity, or inability to use a smartphone or the internet were excluded.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria for this study were as follows: First, individuals diagnosed with major psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, as these conditions may hinder the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy. Second, individuals with a high risk of suicide, as immediate professional intervention is required in such cases, and the digital nature of the app limits the provision of sufficient support. Third, individuals with severe alcohol or substance abuse problems, which could interfere with the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy. Fourth, individuals with serious physical illnesses that restrict activity, as this may hinder the planning and execution of activities required during the therapeutic process. Fifth, individuals who are unable to use a smartphone or access the internet, as the use of such devices is essential for digital therapeutic interventions. These exclusion criteria were verified during the remote recruitment process through a preliminary screening prior to app installation, assessing psychiatric conditions, suicide risk, alcohol and substance abuse, and serious physical illness.
