Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The eligibility criteria were children aged between 4 years old and 9 years old with an American society of anesthesiologists physical class I–II, chronic tonsillitis, tonsillectomy under the general anesthesia, stable vital signs, the ability to communicate, hospitalization with a primary caregiver, and agreeing to participate by patients' caregivers in this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were children who had visual or auditory impairment, mental retardation, acute respiratory infection, hepatic disease, a history of agitation after the previous general anesthesia, and prophylactic administration of analgesics within 24 h before tonsillectomy.
