Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: pediatric patients (aged 10-18) visiting Seoul National University Children's Hospital with hepatic steatosis on liver MRI and at least one cardiometabolic criterion, excluding other causes of steatosis.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if they had a history of other medication use or alcohol consumption, as well as other causes of liver disease, including HBV, HCV, viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, metabolic hepatopathy, and muscular disease. Patients with a history of antibiotic use within the past three months, those who had been unable to discontinue probiotics, and those who had been unable to cooperate with examinations were also excluded. Additionally, patients were excluded if their parents or legal guardians had difficulty understanding the study explanation or if they had contraindications for MRI, such as a history of having a pacemaker, implantable defibrillator, deep brain stimulator, ventriculoperitoneal shunt, prosthetic implants, artificial heart valves, metallic implants, cochlear implants, cerebral aneurysm clips, intra-articular pins/screws, insulin or other drug infusion pumps, drug patches, central venous catheters such as chemoports, tattoos or piercings. Furthermore, patients were excluded if the investigator deemed them inappropriate for participation or if they had failed to provide informed consent in prospective studies.
