Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 65 years or older who were scheduled to undergo hip surgery under general anesthesia at Ansan Korea University Hospital after hip fracture were eligible for the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: We excluded patients who (i) refused to participate in the study, (ii) refused blood tests, (iii) underwent surgery under regional anesthesia, (iv) were intolerant to the drugs used in this study, (v) were diagnosed with severe cognitive impairment (MMSE-K score = 20), (vi) had Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, or severe depression, and (vii) had a history of stroke or delirium within 6 months.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary endpoint was the difference in the incidence of delirium up to 5 days postoperatively between remimazolam-based and desflurane-based general anesthesia

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary endpoints included ICU admission during the first 5 days after surgery and major complications within 5 days.;Other secondary endpoints include blood sample collection and analysis of delirium-related factors.
