Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 19–65 years, classified as American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status II–III, with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher who consent to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients scheduled for emergency surgery, those with contraindications to recruitment maneuver (e.g., emphysema, hemodynamic instability), patients with respiratory or cardiac diseases, those using medications that affect respiratory function (such as salbutamol, budesonide, or formoterol), patients classified as ASA IV or higher, those who continued smoking up to one week before surgery, patients with a history of thoracic surgery, and those planned for postoperative transfer to the intensive care unit
