Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria were: Constipation Assessment Scale score of = 4, age of = 65 years, absence of mental illness, ability to communicate with no speech or hearing impairment, no history of intestinal obstruction or abdominal surgery within the last 6 months, and no intake of laxatives for constipation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: To control for extraneous variables, participants taking probiotics or other supplements that could affect constipation were asked to record them in the self-care journal. Those whose supplements were deemed to affect the constipation status were excluded from the study.
