Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: patients without diabetic neuropathy scheduled for upper extremitu surgery patients with diabetic neuropathy scheduled for AV fistula formation and/or repair.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: conraindication to regional anesthesia allergy to amide loal anesthetics neurological deficits in the operated extremity pregnanacy inabilty tounderstand study

block success and failure (50% minimum effective concentration of mepivacaine)

MeasureTime frame
the minimal intensity of nerve stimulation for the musculocutaneous nerve;complications (vascular puncture, paresthesia, and local anesthetic toxicity);use of supplemental analgesia or conversion to general anesthesia
