Interventions

Procedure/Surgery : We compared the sympathetic nervous system, immunologic, and glucose metabolic responses between general and spinal anesthesia in older adults who underwent urological surgery. In
nitrous oxide in oxygen with 6&#37
desflurane was used for maintenance. The flow of anaesthetic gas mixture was 4 L/min during the surgery. At the end of surgery, residual muscle relaxation was antagonised using glycopyrrolate with pyr
hyperbaric bupivacaine into the subarachnoid space, and patients were maintained in the supine position for 3 to 5 min. Peripheral venous blood was collected before anesthesia (T0) and at 8 hours (T1)

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 65 years and above with an American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification of I–II who were scheduled to undergo elective transurethral resection of the prostate/bladder

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Congestive heart failure (ejection fraction <35%); thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, kidney, or liver disease; glucocorticoid medication; hormone replacement therapy; malignancies; signs of acute infection or inflammation; obesity; and other conditions for which spinal anesthesia is contraindicated.
