Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: In spite of nonoperative treatment, the giving way and recurrent sprain have lasted for more than 6 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) neuromuscular disorders (2) obvious bony deformity of the ankle or foot on the affected side (3) previous surgery of the affected ankle (4) previous fracture of the affected ankle (5) chronic ankle instability of the contralateral ankle (6) generalized joint laxity
