Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients were enrolled in the study if they visited the Pusan National University Dental Hospital between March 2017 and August 2017 and wanted to participate voluntarily. Inclusion criteria for this study were as follows: 1) Patients who ranged in age from 19 to 70 years old; 2) Patients with moderate chronic periodontitis, who required removal of calculus and root planing treatment; 3) Patients exhibiting at least one tooth with a probing pocket depth of 4–6 mm in any of the teeth from the incisor to the second molar on either side of the oral cavity.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for this study were as follows: 1) Patients with systemic disease; 2) Patients who were pregnant or breastfeeding; 3) Patients who received periodontal treatment or antibiotic treatment within 6 months prior to participating in the study.
