Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) age 19 years old or above, (2) time since injury was of less than 1 year, (3) upper extremity power of at least one key muscle was trace and above, and (4) able to understand instructions of the protocol.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were as follows: (1) etiology of motor weakness was other than spinal cord injury, (2) had severe spasticity which was grade 3 or 4 according to the Modified Ashworth Scale (3) inability to sit on a wheelchair or a chair for more than 30 minutes, (4) limited range of motion lesser than 50% of the normal range in shoulder, elbow, and wrist joint, and (5) had severe shoulder pain that interferes with upper limb therapy.
