Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Subjects will be included if they reveal a positive sign in two or more SIS screening tests and in one or more the specific subacromial impingement tests. The SIS screening tests are as follows: (1) more than 1 week persistent pain in proximal anterior or lateral shoulder within 6 months; (2) a painful arc is existed during active shoulder elevation; (3) tenderness while touch of the rotator cuff tendons; (4) a pain occured when conducting resisted isometric shoulder abduction; and (5) a positive sign of Jobe’s test (empty can test). The specific subacromial impingement tests used in this study is the Neer and Hawkins tests.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) a medical history of dislocation or traumatic injuries of the shoulder joint; or (2) an operation history of shoulder joint within the 6 months.
