Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The eligible participants were over 18 years of age and had type 2 diabetes for more than one year. Their baseline glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels were between 7.0 and 10.0%.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants with any significant medical diseases were excluded. Those with creatinine levels higher than 1.5 or 1.4 mg/dL for men or women, respectively, or aspartate aminotransferase (AST) or alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels more than 2.5 times the upper normal limit, were also excluded. We excluded participants who had not been taking stable diabetes medications for the three months before enrollment. Insulin pump users were not included in this study. Participants of other clinical trials or plans were also excluded.
