Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with stroke who had a decreased somatosensation in the contralateral side of the brain lesion were recruited. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) patients within 1 month of their first-ever unilateral ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke; (2) the motor strength of the affected upper extremity is at least grade 1 on the Medical Research Council scale; and (3) sufficient cognitive function to follow simple commands (Mini-Mental State Examination score = 20).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) difficulty in communicating with aphasia or severe dysarthria; (2) moderate to severe spasticity in all joints of the affected limb (Modi?ed Ashworth Scale score = 2); (3) serious vision or visual perception impairments; and (4) a history of diabetic neuropathy and/or other peripheral neuropathies; and (5) other severe psychological, neuromuscular, or orthopedic diseases.
