Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All skeletally mature patients with an age of more than 16 years old who had a unilateral Lauge-Hansen SER-type isolated lateral malleolar fracture with no medial widening or incongruity on standard ankle radiographs in our hospital

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with a pathologic fracture, a concomitant tibial shaft fracture, a previous fracture or other notable injury of either ankle, peripheral neuropathy, pregnancy, or soft-tissue infection in the region of the ankle injury

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Association between physical exmainiation finding (tenderness, swelling, ecchymosis), radiographic examination (gravity stress test, external rotation test) and magnetic resonance imaging.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The bone marrow edema observed in the medial malleolus and medial talus as well as a subtle fracture not previously evident on x-rays are also analyzed.
