Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Eligible individuals were ambulatory adults aged =65 yearswho never received the pneumococcal vaccine and in whom underlying chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes mellituswere stable.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were immune compromising conditions such as HIV infection, leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’sdisease, multiple myeloma, generalized malignancy, chronic renalfailure or nephrotic syndromes, congenital or acquired immunode-ficiencies, diseases requiring treatment using immunosuppressivedrugs, including long-term systemic corticosteroids or radiationtherapy, solid organ transplantation, functional or anatomic asplenia, cerebrospinal fluid leaks or cochlear implants, a history of hypersensitivity to vaccine or invasive pneumococcal diseases, any coagulation disorder, and a history of antibiotic use within one week.
