Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: patients aged 20 to 80 years for whom central venous catheterization and TEE examination was planned to monitor or evaluate the cardiac function, structure and hemodynamic changes in major surgery.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were patients with change of the mediastinal structure from prior thoracic surgery, radiation therapy, or neoplasm within the lung, any potential risk from TEE examination including the esophageal varices, fistula, or stenosis and refusal to enroll in the study.
